Does anybody know anywhere locally (Axarquia) where we can buy a dog.We would prefer a puppy as opposed to a full grown dog and would also prefer a dog cos bitches do attract all the local packs (no offence meant ladies), Finally if possible it would have to be a decent size dog because we are not keen on little yappie ones!!

Sorry if I am being particular but better to say it now than let somebody down or go on uncalled journeys!!

One legal point about pet ownership over here;
Dogs and cats must be microchipped and current with all vaccinations.
There is a very hefty fine involved if they are not.
We have three dogs, all rescues, and one of them got into a scrap with one of the village dogs.
The owner tried to separate them and in doing so got a nip from ours.
He had to see the medics for treatment because our dog had drawn blood, (something anyone bitten by a animal out here should do because of the Rabies risk).
We had to produce evidence that our dog was fully vaccinated and that his papers were in order. We also had to visit the vet to have his microchip read. We then had to sign a form from the Spanish Health Authority, undertaking a two week observation period of the dog and report any changes in his health and then report back to the medics at the end of the obsevation period.
Fortunately all turned out well and the owner of the other dog and ourselves are now good friends.
The dogs however are another story…and we go out of our way to avoid a clash!
The authorities take Rabies very seriously out here…and so should all pet owners or prospective pet owners.
He/she may be the best behaved dog in the country, but in the event of a dispute with another animal, he/she is still a dog and will use teeth and claws as the best form of defence…
