Hi there.

I’m a UK citizen who has worked in Gibraltar over the past four years but found myself unemployed in the autumn of 2008.
I applied for UB in Gibraltar and had to complete an E301 and send this to a Spanish Social Security office as I live in Spain.

Can anyone please explain how it is I can expect benefit if I haven’t paid into the Spanish system?
I await my first backpay but am concerned all is not right, despite assurances to the contrary.

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply.

I couldn’t find a solution on that page alas.

I was working in Gibraltar and so my taxes were paid there.

However, I was redirected to Spain by Gibraltar Soc. Security office.

Hi RussJ,
I am guessing you have been re-directed to Sp SS as as you say you live in Spain.  I know from friends who live in Gib
that you can only claim JSA if you actually live on the Rock/have an address there.
If you check out the DWP (Department of Works & Pensions) website for the UK - it does say you can ‘look for work in another
European country for 3 months and still get your UK/Gib??? (latter has their own rules???) - JSA paid.  But as you haven’t actually got it yet you might have to start from scratch in Spain as a ‘new arrival’.  You would have to go to your local INME office and register there.  But don’t hold your breath… I don’t think you will actually get any money out of them- as you rightly say you have never paid into the Spanish system.
Do they have a citizens advice in Gib?  Worth going to Job Centre (Plus?) again and hassling for someone who knows both sides of the border!!! I,e you should be able to get some kind of medical cover…. maybe a form is needed from Gib for your SS payments etc…..
Good luck! (lots of red tape ahead?)
