I am a British Citizen and have lived in the Republic of Ireland for 14 years. I am married to a Russian national and we would like to move to Spain to be close to her daughter. Can anyone advise us of the required procedure.

As a British citizen you can live anywhere in the EU without problems regarding visas, owning property, getting work, etc. That you live or have lived in Ireland doesn’t matter as far as I can see.

Since you’re from the UK, you’ll have to apply for a visa de reagrupacion (see our visas page) once you’re already living in Spain. On that ToDo list you’ll find some of the procedural items you should take care of like your empadronamiento and NIE. At some point you’ll need to find an apartment or house… which were you planning to look at?

Can anyone advise us of the required procedure.

I am non-Eu National and married to british citizen husband in london and we moved to spain a month ago.
I can tell you about my procedure.

First , you need to find spanish embassy in ireland (I did in spanish embassy in london)
        apply for your husband’s spanish visa. (you will need application form which you can download from spanish embassy website, marriage certificate, you and your husband’s passport)
Then they will give your husband visa to permit entrance to spain. (it took 1 month to get that visa)
When you arrive in spain you and your husband need to go Police office for foreinger(can’t remember spanish name) to register all everything again to get NIE for your husband.
But before your husband get NIE you need to have certificate of spanish regidence(EU citizen no need to have NIE anymore just need a Certificate) first order to get your husband NIE.

It was really complicated and not many people knows about these situation so they kept sending us to wrong offices. we fianlly managed to send my NIE application to right office and wait for my NIE but people said it will take at least 3 month.

We live in valencia so i only know all related offices address in valencia. if you move another area you need to find out which office you need to go.
