Hi guys,

A tricky problem has come up for me, in that we are renting a furnished property and need to insure our limited but crucial personal effects brought over with us.  However, the security on the property is not good, eg poor grades of locks etc.

To upgrade this is obviously the ideal option but the landlord is not exactly proactive in this respect and meantime I am scared to go out and leave laptops etc uninsured in the house!

Does anyone know of an insurer/broker who could offer a few grands worth of ‘personal effects’ insurance (as opposed to home contents - as we don’t need or wish to insure someone else’s furniture that is probably insured already in any case)

COmmercial recommendations or approaches welcome but obviously do PM if it’s a self-recommendation,

Thanks in advance!

Hola Pet,

Looks like nobody has any knowledge of insurance which may be a little worrying!

Suggest you go into a brokers office there are plenty of English ones around if your Spanish is not ready to tackle to local ones- Try Jennifer Cunninghams or see the locals ads in the freebie papers.

Thanks Rob and Jurdyr, so far no one wants to touch us unless we spend a few grand upgrading the security of a place we may not be coming back to in the autumn so we’ll see.  May try Cunninghams though good idea,

Dear BuenosDiasPet

We can cover your contents despite the security situation. What you probably do not realise is that you are not protected for any damage or theft caused by your actions from the owners policy, so it may be that you should cover yourself for a reasonable amount should something occur. For further information please call Catalunya Insurance Services on 0034 977493607 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
