Live in a Town or Urban, where you cant put up a big dish, heres a possible answer. You will need a Broadband connection, and either unlimited download and goo bandwith.

You can Access ITV and BBC all channels, virtually live,  (Also other UK channels, but as yet have not finished trying them all out to confirm,) The service is continuous with on the link I have no buffering,,  same as watching TV via sat
Simply purchase a monthly Subscription to a VPN network,  I use http://www.vpnuk.info , cost is ?8 per month but up to six people can share it!!!  the payment is month by month and you can cancel after one month,, I have used PayPal, as I find that to use acredit cards it can be difficult to stop a payment.

This system effectively hides your PC location in Spain, and tells the other end you are in the UK< perfect,

Thanks - wish I’d known about this when I was in the States for 6 months. I was always trying to use iPlayer and watch live sport on the BBC web site but was denied because it recognised my IP address as being one from outside the UK.  Am wondering, however, whether there may be a cheaper site offering this?

That sounds brilliant!  Is is available wherever you are in Spain?  I?m in Menorca.  We looked into getting Sky at one point but I live in a block of flats and so we can?t put up a dish.  We have broadband of 6 megabytes ADSL - is that OK?  Do you actually use this service?  Just wondering what kind of quality the picture is.  If I was able to contract this I would definitely look into it as it sounds great!

In short yes and yes, (actually as I understand it you can use it from any location in the world”“)and I wish I could act as a reseller, but it is so cheap there is no room for any margin, There is also a set it up on on your PC service, online instant help through a messenger service.

IE ?8 per month, you can sign up for only one month as I said using PayPal, which also means you can cancell very easily as well,

I use it daily in the office, and at home when the wife has her damn soaps on.,  I have shared it with the Local bar( they have put it onto a projector for the RUGBY, the english cafe teashop, and two colleagues,  all say excellent, quality (The picture quality is as good as TV as long as your PC is capable of reproducing it!! and you have the bandwidht)  and no buffering or slowing down noticed as yet!..

Simple to use, once you have it setup, you just start the programme and it routes allyour traffic through the UK or US server (whichever you require),  then you just use internet as normal, you actually see no difference in operation at all.
All in very impressive.

I use Justin TV to search out sport and TV programs that I want to watch it is really easy to use if you have good broadband.

For Specific programmes JustinTV is very good, but Zattoo will give you all the UK Channels as if watching TDT in the UK, (you will need the VPN though to fool UK location requirement.)

NB you must have a good broadband connection for this to work really well,

I find it as good as watching Sky or TDT in the UK,

Hi Mike,

Thanks as usual for your interesting technical input - not trying to be Mr Doom and Gloom BUT (here we go) is the VPN solution legitimate ? ie like the re broadcast TV which has now proven to be illegal (allegedly) is this not really a bit of a scam which the BBC etc (who explain how they cannot legally broadcast say live football on R5 outside UK) will put stop too?

Also I used to have Zatoo but then they started charging ?

By the way according to the site you linked it is now just 6.50 a month…......

cheers,

Hi Rob, on the charges, yes they have just changed over their host servers today, and from what I have been watching so far it is very much and improved service, with no buffering today at all, and also they have changed their charging structure for new customers, which looks a slightly better deal!!

On the issue of whether its legal, there is no way it can be illegal to have a VPN, service, as a lot of companies use this as secure networking for their company systems,  however it may be out of viewing contract to watch say BBC1 in an out of UK territory location, but that is the same for big dish systems and without encryption etc, there is not much they can do about it,
second, as they contract with VPN is only on a month by month basis the risk is extremely limited, especially as there is no setup charges, or equipment required, ( I wish I had thought of this and commercially done this myself), i have been using the service for over 4 months now, and share the IP with my daughter in Oz, my Son in Dubai, and my American Friend who lives in the next village, we are all really pleased with it. I have also ” rented out a share to the local bar, who use it for sport etc, when available on ITV or BBC, ( the Six nations in facti!!!)

I use Dual Viewer. It offers BBC, ITV, Channel 4 on demand, Five, and more. Beautiful picture quality and fast connection. It also offers a full screen mode so that you can watch your shows with the best picture.  They offer a free trial if you want to check it out.

I have been using it for a few months and swear by it. I sure did miss my UK shows.

Amazing - the dual viewer works! usually I have found a lot of promise and no delivery.

But they seem a bit coy about the price?

I triedit and it wasnt quite what it seemed, and so I didn’t subscribe, as 4OD and 5OD is not live TV,  and in my view neither service above matched up to Zattoo in terms of programme content/availability,  interestingley I had problems downloading the dual viewer service and was not able to load an addon programme required, the support service didnt respond when I requested aid.

So far, I find there is not much to beat BBC and ITV Direct via VPN.

I’ve used Shaw for internet, TV and phone since I got here (4 years ago) and had no problems. I do know that Telus is now offering a package that may be a bit cheaper but the problem that I have with it is that it will only allow you to have up to 3 TVs on the system and I have more then that in the house. At least with Shaw I can have TVs without cable boxes that still work on the sytem but with Telus you need to have a cable box to work and they won’t give you more then three.
