In the next 3 days I have to renew my Anti Virus

Ok yeap I am an IT Analyst with 16 years of Experience but hey… theres no harm in asking…

I am currently With Mcafee… (Which I no longer recommend) I was looking at F-Secure which is ment to be good…

I do not like Norton as tests show it slows down your pc to as much 40%

Any Sugestions?

Is this for non-commercial use?

It’s nice, but it talks to you, which is a bit disconcerting; and I think AVG has the edge.

I agree with you about McAfee (lots of grief on my brother-in-law’s machine, which I had to sort out manually) and Norton (free at first on a Dell I bought - worked OK, but it was a resource hog, and I never understood exactly how the firewall part decided what it would and wouldn’t allow) -  so both best avoided.

If you want to spend money and/or get extra features and/or get support and/or make commercial use, then both products above have ‘Professional’ versions. And while I hear no actual bad reports of F-Secure, the gurus I respect all seem to recommend NOD32. So that might be worth a look:-

However, I’ve no direct knowledge of it; I’ve never used it personally. But if I was going to pay for AV, NOD32 is where I’d start looking.

Have used Avast for a long time and recommend it to all the PC owners I look after. As said if you want some extra facilities go for the “professional” version that cost a small amount (this is what I use) Avast is very good at stopping viruses and as has been said is not a resource hog like some others.

I would highly recommend NOD32 from Eset. I heard it advertised on the radio when I was in LA and have been using it ever since with no viruses or problems. I previously used Norton and MacAfee, both of which failed to protect my laptop!

AVG alerts drive me nuts on my eee, I am going to take it off and replace with Macafee,

I have bad reviews from Nod32 Apparently it scans to fast…. and misses viruses and Scripts….

Mcafee I would keep clear from there as Naff as Naff can be…

Oh dear - an antivirus without a firewall is like a fish without a bicycle.

But both NOD32 and AVG Pro, which I commended to you, offer this unnecessary[1] addition for those who value it.

But when Testing Software… I expect An Antivirus to BE WITH a Firewall…

One of my sons has a Mac, but asked me for an XP licence, as there’s good stuff out there that Macs just can’t run…

Hmmm, does he need antivirus for XP under a MAC OS?  😊
