It’s nice, but it talks to you, which is a bit disconcerting; and I think AVG has the edge.
I agree with you about McAfee (lots of grief on my brother-in-law’s machine, which I had to sort out manually) and Norton (free at first on a Dell I bought - worked OK, but it was a resource hog, and I never understood exactly how the firewall part decided what it would and wouldn’t allow) - so both best avoided.
If you want to spend money and/or get extra features and/or get support and/or make commercial use, then both products above have ‘Professional’ versions. And while I hear no actual bad reports of F-Secure, the gurus I respect all seem to recommend NOD32. So that might be worth a look:-

However, I’ve no direct knowledge of it; I’ve never used it personally. But if I was going to pay for AV, NOD32 is where I’d start looking.
