hi all!

I will be making my move to Barcelona in early September and I have a question about furniture!  My boyfriend is a native Catalan and has secured a September 1 lease in Barri Gotic for us.  However, the apartment is completely UNFURNISHED!  As I am coming from the States and he is coming from his parents home, let’s just say—we have nothing!  I don’t start my job until mid-October and since he is working full-time, I know it will be mainly my responsibility to make our new little piso a home since I will have some time to get organized while he is working.  I am very familiar with the city and its back-streets as I have lived there as a study abroad student during college and have visited many times since.  SO, if anyone has any advice on where I can find good CHEAP furniture - near the center or easy to access near the center of Barcelona—any help would be great!!!

moltes/muchas gracias!

Try IKEA in Barcelona there are 2 in the region.

Spaniards tend to throw away items more than they sell in say secondhand shops, you can find them in Barcelona as there are lots of peeps into that.

I`d keep to IKEA though for now, they got some great stuff for 1 st timers setting up and not that expensive.

I agree…... definitely IKEA.  You can order it all online shortly before you?re due to arrive there.  There are pieces that you?ll have to put together yourselves though so hopefully your boyfriend will have a little bit of time for some DIY after work!  Good luck with your move!

Oh that is wonderful! I live near the Ikea in NY-NJ area and they have a shuttle service from NYC to the IKEA in NJ (by bus) - this may be a long shot - but do they have a shuttle service to the one in Badalona (did a little research after reading your posts)?  Thanks for the great advice guys 😊

I?m not sure about shuttle services but I know that when I?ve bought from IKEA I?ve always bought online and they?ve delivered straight to my house.  I was also given another option when ordering online to have the products delivered to a specific store room on an industrial estate and they?ll hold it there for you until you can go and pick it up, although you?d probably need a van for this if it?s all the furniture for your new flat.  However, this has no extra charge which you?d have to pay if the delivery is sent direct to your house.  However, I live in Menorca where there?s no IKEA, it?s sent here from Majorca so I?m not sure if that just applies to here or to all the IKEA?s.
