There seems to be 2 kinds of poster on this site - this thread is a classic example -

1. There are those that say hey everything is OK to drive a UK car in Spain, the only problem is the wheel is on the wrong side…...................etc.

They are the people who are trying to be friendly and helpful but are in fact either intentionally or through ignorance totally failing to consider the legal issues involved.Living what I call ‘the honeymoon period’ ie hey the sun is shining nothing is a problem.

2. Then there are those that post providing practical advice based on Spanish Law and what you should be doing to avoid problems and finding yourself with the Guardia issuing you fines and impounding your car. The GC are now getting serious about illegal cars.

OK some will call these the boring doom and gloom merchants.

But I know which I would prefer to take advice from - if you are a person who wants to live full time in Spain and not have worries.

As ever the choice is yours.

By the way with my 10 years of living in Spain experience I would say get rid of a UK car or better still don’t bring it in the 1st place and buy a legal Spanish car. Safer, easier and cheaper.

PS Not all businesses with hotmail email addresses are dodgy!

Hi All,

Just to update you, we managed to sell the car, to a British man (who did indeed have his own interests at heart, he texted us late at night the evening prior to meeting him for the sale to tell us that our car was not the model he thought and could not offer what we had agreed upon - when he stood beside us and the car days previously!!!!!, sadly we knew and he knew that we had no other options and we agreed to a lower figure) anyway all worries about importing it or anything are now history.
We have bought a Spanish (LHD) plated car with a contract stating clear of debts etc.

Thanks again for all your input.

Carol. 😊

HI;
Sounds like a typical dealer to me!
Just make sure you notify the change of ownership to DVLA; otherwise you will be liable for any problems that may arise whilst the vehicle is over here!
