Well I dont want to use my DNI I want to use My NIE Number (What I had Given To Me At The Embassy Many Moons Ago Before They Knew I Was A Dual Citizen Of Spain and UK)

I found this .....

NIE (N?mero de Identidad/Identificaci?n de Extranjero): This number is issued to all foreigners once they obtain residency and will appear on their Residency Card. This is their identification number in Spain and is required in order to file taxes, establish a business, open a bank account (not necessary for foreign accounts), and for almost any other form you will have to fill out. Both EU citizens and non-EU citizens get issued an NIE. You can print out a copy of this form by clicking here. If you take or send this form to the Spanish Embassy in your own country you can obtain your NIE before you depart for Spain. Simply click on the link and then print out the form.

NIF (N?mero de Identificaci?n Fiscal): This is the tax ID number for all individuals. For Spaniards, it?s the DNI plus one letter; for foreigners, it?s the same number as your NIE. Once you have an NIE, you do not need to re-apply for an NIF; if and when you have to pay taxes, use your NIE number. If you?re a nonresident who has to pay taxes in Spain, you may get an NIF issued to you without having an NIE. This, of course, does not mean you get automatic residency in Spain, nor will it make it any easier to get residency.

CIF (Certificado de Identificaci?n Fiscal): This is the the same as the NIF, but for companies.

I take it I can use it For VAT Purposes 😊

No Its Called A Vat Number so it means your Registered for VAT (Value Added Tax) etc…...

If you buy In the UK and they ask for a Vat Number you do not get charged VAT….

As a VAT/Tax Number means your Registered to pay taxes or Vat…

Confused? so I am I!

Are we talking about VAT or IVA ?

If your in Spain living, you don`t need a IVA number as in the UK, its your NIE number, the same as your CIF.

There is no choice on what number you may or may not use, its not down to individuals to use.

“Charging IVA. Taxable operations

Only businesses and individuals working as self-employed persons can legally charge the VAT on their taxable operations. All businesses, except those that carry out exempt activities, are subject to IVA. All of them must enter the amounts charged in the Spanish Treasury (Hacienda).

IVA taxable operations include the supply of goods, the provision of services and imports”.

“Imposition of VAT on imports and exports operations

Goods and services are subject to VAT tax when these are supplied in Spain. This normally occurs either if the goods are located in Spain at the moment of sale, or if the services’ provider has its place of business in Spain, with certain exceptions.

The imposition of VAT on imports between Member States has ceased. The EU exporter shall quote the recipient’s VAT number on the sales invoice”.

When I buy things in the UK (Over The Web) as I buy in bulk they ask if I have a VAT number… Hence Why I was told that you can use your Nie/Dni number to pass paying UK Vat?

Just A Thought….

As a Spanish National you should apply for the CIF, NIF, GIF, HIF and a DIF.😉

I can`t remember my NIE, I think, if I remember correct the NIE numbers were carried over to the DNI.

As your no longer an NIE person, you should apply the rules as a Spaniard.

Tax man may get a bit funny about it.

If you look up to my 3rd post… You see some comments on legal websites….

I am still not sure though…..
