For the last several years a blue motor catamaran has been patrolling the Arenal beach.  It has dark blue hulls, about 6 metres long, and 3 meters beam, with a white wheelhouse amidships.  It is called Mini Pelican II and appears to be registered to Medio Ambiante.  What is strange is that in front of the wheel house, between the hulls, is a scoop or shovel which can be lowered into the water.

Some time ago it lowered this scoop and shortly afterwards a boat turned up with three scuba divers who went down and had a look.  As far as I am aware, it only patrols the town beach, and has Medio Ambiante markings

They use them to clean the gudge produced by the human waste pumped into the sea in the summer time.

In Malaga they stopped using most of them, too which many people swim through the gudge without knowing there swimming in human waste.

Most believe it is from ship oil floating in the sea.

They also use them for collecting jellyfish and any other floating nasties.

Yuk!  But what were the divers doing?  Do you know if there are still any cars out there, apparantly seven went missing after the 12 Octber floods.

Possible.

There tasked with keepin the beaches clean, so I guess if cars are there, they would be trying to recover them.

Down Malaga some of the local diving clubs clean the sea bed every year.

Hopefully soon the new treatment plants will be built to cope with the increase in demand during the summer periods.

The councils in 2008 decided that of the 20 or so boats required, they could only afford to run 2, last year was a bad year for sludge in Malaga.
