I’ve clarified with America that I am allowed to become a dual-citizen through marriage.
Unfortunately she was unable to answer my question about Spain specifically.
The Spanish oath does ask me to revoke previous citizenship.
Has anyone married into Spanish citizenship? Know of anyone who has? Specifically someone from America, as it’s my American citizenship I’m afraid of loosing!
Any advice would be helpful,
Thanks, B
The fact that you are getting married to an Spanish citizen doesn’t mean that you get Spanish citizenship automaticly. You would be entitled to get the Spanish citizenship after a time, and according to the Spanish Law if you request the Spanish citizenship you should renounce to the American one (as only citizens from some countries former colonies of Spain are allowed to have dual citizenship). However, although the Law says that, the Spanish authorities are not enforcing such Law properly, as there are many many persons with dual citizenship from countries that are not former colonies of Spain (UK, Australia, Germany, etc).
