Hello i am a uk citizen needing a legal translation of my education certificates

this is for an application for my Seguridad Vigilancia License, which require the proof of secondary education or higher.

Does anyone have experience in this…i am getting quotes of over 600e

including all the costs of the required courses i had to attend, matriculation costs, examination fees, i have now nearly spent 1500e and still do not have my license to work

Therefore can someone please tell me if there is a cheaper option and more importantly do the catalan/spanish government really expect everybody to pay 600e for the translation + the ‘homologation’ fee?

the homologation or official recognition of your secondary education as a bachillerato is free.
you down load the form from the ministry of education website.
the spanish consulate in the uk or british consulate in spain can translate your transcript and diploma.
so cost will be minimal.
you have to have those documents authenticated or the apostille attached to them.
you then submit them to the ministry of education in madrid and it takes about 3 months or so for them to give you the “credencial”.
european union diplomas and transcript of grades may even take less time to get recognized.

yes i went to the consulate and they gave me a list of translators that i must use to have my certificates translated. and it is these translators from the consulate that want 600+ euros

which consulate? the spanish consulate in the uk or the british consulate in spain?
have you consulted the spanish consulate in the uk?

flying to london and having the document translated at the spanish consulate in london may not reach 600 euros.

I just thought i would update this for everyone to see

I found a translator on the list that was offering reasonable prices.

Basically the translators in Barcelona/Madrid that are on the official list seem to be operating a cartel charging as much as 600 euro’s for a 6000 word translation.

I then contacted other people off the official list of translators for spain, who lived outside the cities and rich commercial zones, focusing on small towns, and found the translation going as cheap as 200 euros.

the lesson learned is look around for the best price, don’t just accept the price/info that people tell you.

I need to get my M.A. diploma (University of Lodz, Poland, EU) homologated/accredited in Barcelona. I hear the homologation process lasts a year (seriously, a year?), and that many people are actually refused to have their diplomas homologated - is it true? Without the homologation I can kiss my postgraduate studies in BCN goodbye.

Finally, I hope the process of homologation of an M.A. diploma doesn’t costs 600?.

Do you think a sworn translation can be done via the Consulate? Maybe it will be cheaper than the standard, outrageous price. I will have just about 1 kilo of documents, I don’t even wanna imagine how much it would cost.

I would also like to ask the more experienced forum users: in order to homologate my diploma, do I need to solicitate a meeting with the Generalitat de Catalunya, or do I just show up in there out of the blue with my documents? If it is necessary to establish a date for the meeting, how is it done? Do I call them? Snail mail them? Or do I just show up and queue? How long does it actually take to finally have a meeting with the Generalitat? I wish I could call them, but I’m in Poland now, so I guess calling Spain would cost me the price of a good mountain bike.

I asked the Generalitat itself via email, but still no answer, and I’m at a loss.

Just out of curiosity: what documents are needed for homologation of a university degree? I guess the diploma itself, a transcript of records, everything sworn-translated into Spanish, anything else?
