Hi, I’m starting work in Gibraltar soon and just wanted to get some advice on the tax situation since I will be a resident in Spain for more that 180 days out of the year.

If there is anyone else who is in the same situation, please could you let me know what it is like for you?, because I have read many websites and it’s all a bit confusing. I totally understand that I will be paying income tax to Gibraltar (which appears to be 20% if i choose the gross based system) however, in addition to this will I have to pay social tax to Gibraltar even although I am not a resident there?

Also, with regards to Spain how does it work if I have to declare my income to Spain etc? I heard that you can claim it back but I just wanted some impartial advice on how this is generally done??

I’m confused!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks very much

I honestly think the only smart advice is to talk to an accountant.  Everybody’s tax situation is different, and the only advice worth following is going to be that of a specialist who has looked at your individual situation in detail and given you indemnified professional recommendations.  I totally agree its confusing!  But you wont find this kind of answer on a forum, at least not one you’d dare base financial planning decisions on.

Good luck with the move and I am sure you will get lots of help and advice here on less specialist legal issues!
