What is Granada like to live in?
Am considering moving somewhere to southern Spain but looking for a bit of nightlife area and some good street cafes/restaurants.
The coast might seem a bit too much of a holiday destination and too many Brits in summer…

Granada does get a large amount of tourism, although it is generally a different type, there are lots of walking, sking etc holiday seekers. Its a nice place, no major issues, still very Spanish and if you want a good mix of Spanish culture mixed with some others its a great place.

Well worth a visit.

My SPanish is only very basic at the moment so how much of an issue do you think that would be in the shops, restaurants, etc.?

No different than anywhere else on the costa’s, there used to tourists from non Spanish speaking countries, so you’ll be ok, show willing and have a laugh, you’ll find it easier to learn Spanish than if you visited/lived near non Spanish speaking people.

Many bars in the centre have menu’s translated and many workers in Bars, shops and hotels speak good English.

Is it a fairly young city compared to say the southern beach areas?
Like 20s, 30s, 40s?

No.

There are bars and clubs, but not to the same level as the costa area’s.

There’s a vibrant music scene in Granada, covering pretty much all styles and tastes. Depends what you’re into in particular really.

I like rock music and there’s a few bars that have live acts or are rock themed. There’s also El Tren in La Chana, where I had the pleasure of seeing Living Colour perform a gig last year.

On the whole though, it’s a very culturally rich city. With plenty of history, science, art, music going on, there’s pretty much something for everyone.

Oh… and Granada C.F. have just won promotion to the Spanish Segunda and harbour hopes of promotion to the Primera… so there’s a great sporting atmosphere around at the moment.

Best advice, is to stay in one of the many hotels in the city, and experience the atmosphere for yourself. 😊
