Hello all!

I have this crazy idea where I’d like to open a sandwich shop in Barcelona or Madrid. I’m currently living in the US and have been recently laid off due to cut backs. However I’m almost 30 and therefore have been living almost paycheck to paycheck. I’m tired of the rat race here and I really think my niche idea could work. My mother is Spanish and I’m completely fluent. I have some family there but mainly further up north in Basque country.

I’ve been doing research online but I need direction. Is it possible to get bank loans in Spain by foreigners? Is this idea of mine impossible because I have little to no funds currently at my disposal? I’ve lived in Spain for several years before (when I was a child) and did an internship in Spain so I’m familiar with the culture and and day to day life but business wise I’m lost.

Any help or direction someone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
-Ivan

Hi there.

To make a long story short, I have some friends here doing the exact same thing.  Sandwich shop.  End result they are trying to turn the space into something else.  It is not the success they thought it would be and they are most extranjeros as well.

Banks are almost impossible giving loans at the moment.  There are possibilities here, but you need to have a rock solid plan and your own money or partner to invest, otherwise better off in a less expensive area.
