Hi there,

me again…just wanted to know how things work here in relation to a Doctor????

I have my empardonimento (not sure of spelling) and NIE and need to get my equivalent of the residnecy thingy sorted…just started a new job which has social benefits, it is rubbish, but it’s money. However, how do I now go about finding myself a reputable GP, British if possible, in the La Nucia / A’Lfas del Pi area around Benidorm.

I also require a good podiatrist, dentist and optician as I am diabetic and obviously a reputable GP in relation to my diabetic matters….

Can anyone help in relation to how I about this and what documentation will I need to register with these services and what will social security allow me to have here in Spain the equiavlent services of a british NHS…and how do I register for social security or does my employers do that for me?????

Thanks for any feedback that you can give….

As you are working you are eligible to health care. You need to take you NIE number, social security number (on your health card), and address to your local Centro de Salud and register with a Doctor. You will then be able to get prescriptions for any medication you need to take regularly.

Thank you .. hopefully will do this very soon ...

However, because I am diabetic am I correct in assuming that here in Spain is not like in England where I can automatically register with a doctor and recieve medical treatment and medication because I am diabetic ...

Hi

I am a diabetic based in Barcelona.

As the others said you can only register even as a diabetic when you have a work contract.

I get repeat prescription and you pay a minimum feed for medication eg metformin 20c a box!

The Dr?s nurse gives me needles and test strips for free.

I think if you see a Dr privately they cannot prescribe to you free.

Hope this helps
