Hi everyone, i’m new to this forum as we are in the final stages of moving to Asturias. Planned landing date is around the 1st April, but as i’m sure most of yo know that is flexible! I’m not sure i’m in the right forum but i just wondered if anyone out there knows of any car/motorcycle breakdown recovery companies in Spain that have english speaking staff. I have basic spanish at the moment but not sure i could explain that “my wotsit flange has come loose on my whatyamacallit”.

Any ideas anyone?

Oh while i’m here anyone now of any insurance companies that offer fully comp insurance on classic (1975) motorcycles?

Many thanks, Tony

Hi…
Car and M/C breakdown recovery is normally included with the vehicle insurance over here under the term ‘Asistencia por Viaje’.
I don’t know of any independents but you could try Mapfre or RACC.
Given that car insurance issued in England on English reg vehicles is normally only valid for 3 months in Europe, I would suggest you get Spanish Insurance as soon as possible.

Copied from another thread on this forum here’s a suggestion for car / bike insurance.

Try Catalunya Insurance Services. They compare all the major players and give you the best price. They are also motorcyclists and can advise on the replating procedures. 0034 977493607 or email sales@catalunyainsuranceservices.com

Hope this helps…

I think the other thing worth mentioning is that typically they do not tinker about with the car on the roadside (seen as dangerous) they just tow you/life you in and clear the road.

So all you need to explain is your policy details and location - and forget the ?my wotsit flange has come loose on my whatyamacallit?.

Linea Directa (not seen as cheapest option by many brokers, but IMO they always deliver the goods!)
will take your call in English and deal with the whole thing for you.
But as Robbi says, they just tow you to where you want to go.
Many of our ‘gruas’ in the South speak a passable list of English words, but it may? be different in the North
where there are less tourists?
LD will deal with all the bits if you really need to (but IMO have your own mechanic lined up and don’t always accept thier offer of
‘authorized/preferred mechanic’)

Do you belong to any international MC clubs?  (I am a member of WIMA and we help each other in visting countries).

Sounds like you are a forward planning person - so I am sure all will go OK 😉

ps - MC’s are seen here as high risk, so premiums may be higher.  But don’t quote me on that as I haven’t been able to own a bike since moving to Spain.

Thank you all for your replies, i will contact Linea Directo and see how much it will cost. Its funny how the things i do and take for granted over here in the Uk seem to fill me with trepidation when i think about organising them in Spain…but i guess that half the fun/challange of living abroad :o)
