I have just secured a 2 bed apartment with my girlfriend situated in the town of Nerja, it is 500? a month. First time living alone. Everything in the apartment is electric, I have know idea about electricity prices so I am hoping someone out there could take the time to go over a few things with me and give me a estimation on the cost of my electricity bill per month.

I will list the appliances that we will be using and trying to give a duration of time it will be used for per month based on 31 days.

Electric oven + Hob - 62 hours
Kettle - 5 hours
top loader washing mashing - 8 hours
dishwasher - 8 hours
fridge/freezer - 744 hours
microwave oven - 8 hours
computer (400W fan installed) - 160 hours
LCD TV 37” - 160 hours
Playstation 3 & Wii - 15 hours
air con unit (obviously you won’t need this till start Summer) - 62 hours
fan (obviously you won’t need this till start Summer) - 310 hours
lamp - 155 hours

I am going to get a internet connection. only need internet. cheapest I found is ya.com offering 10Mbit broadband for 407? a year

That’s a tall order. You’d need to look up the kilowatt hours of each appliance and multiple that by the hours and then by the electricity rates in your area. Here’s the E-ON standard prices for electricity however. Hopefully this gets you part of the way there. That’s a tall order. James Hi…

You’ve missed a couple of high usage devices from your list…

Hot Water… you probably have an 80 litre tank, average consumption is 1.5Kw. We keep ours on 24/7 having found it cheaper to do this than to just run it for 2-4 hrs a day. No point in letting a full tank of hot water get cold if you are just going to have to heat it again.

Heating… despite the fact that you are on the coast you may well have some heating costs involved.

Have you obtained a contract with the electricity supplier or are you paying the landlord? This could well make a difference.

Spanish electricity is expensive. On a par with or more expensive than the UK. The total cost includes a Standing charge which varies with the type of contract, the cost of the electricity itself, a special electricity tax, meter rental and IVA (Spanish VAT).

There are too many variables to be able to suggest a figure; ours varies between around 75 Euros per month during the Summer to 450 Euros per month during the Winter but…we live inland, halfway up an alp and it gets pretty cold here so our biggest cost is heating. Also our house is active 24/7 so the heating is always on, two computers running. Numerous kettles of water for coffee etc, etc.

Hope this helps a little

thanx foxbat

all bills are given directly to the landlord

we won’t be keeping things on 24/7 (except fridge/freezer). and turning appliances of by the mains when not in use which i heard can save alot of money.

heating don’t know if that will be in use that often as the apartment is well insulated and in summer you will be using fans to cool the places down.
