I’m coming to Spain in October for a year to teach English and French with the Dept. of Education in Spain. However, I’m in a partnership (as we can’t legally be married in the USA!) and I’m not willing to be separated for possibly two years.
Does anyone know of a way to petition for him to obtain the same visa as I do? I know that when someone has a job and is sponsored, their dependents and spouse are eligible for the same status. As that legally isn’t my case, but situationally similar, does anyone out there know what to do or who to ask? I’ve emailed the ambassador about this, but I’m waiting for their response.

Hope you can help me

I am also in this situation, just not from USA (but another non-EU country that also doesn’t allow us to legally get married). I will be on a student visa (teaching also), and don’t know how to bring my partner with me. Waiting a couple of months to sort things out would be bearable, but being separated for two years - unthinkable!

Anyone know of a solution, or maybe you’ve received your reply, mr.higgins10?
