Hi there,
I currently live in the states and I am exploring the idea of working in Spain- Barcelona- making roughly 1800 euro before taxes. I am not sure how much the cost of living is there, and I have tried to do a lot of research online and still feel a little unsure. I would need to rent an apartment and I do have credit card bills at home and several other smaller debts that would probably equal roughly 350 euros a month. Although I am so excited to explore this opportunity, I do not want to dig myself deeper into the debt pool. I am also a cyclist and would be curious to know if there are lots of people who ride in Barcelona as I would bring my road and mtn bikes. Any advice and honesty would be most appreciated. Thanks!!!!

Lots of people ride in Barcelona. There are lots of bikes for rent in the street and also there’s a “bicing” community. If you speak Spanish or Catalan check this: http://www.bicing.cat

If you like nature, there are lots and lots of routes to do in a lot of Catalonia mountains. I’m sure you’d enjoy 😉

With 1800 euros you can live. There are salaries about minus 1000? (“mileuristas”). But maybe you’d have to share your apartment.

If you can, I advice you to keep your job and “telework” from Spain. Here there are lots of people without job nowadays.  Being honest, that “Crisis” is very hard… :(

You don’t want to dig yourself deeper into the debt pool, but man, if you prepare all and save some money before coming, you can do this. It’s time for changes, for adventure! 😊

1800,00? before tax would work out roughly 1320,00? after tax has been deducted. After you’ve paid back your 350,00? you’d be left with the bare minimum to live on if you’re looking for your own flat.
