Can any body help please.

What are the pitfalls of buying a Spanish Plated car in the UK and bringing it back to Spain to use as a car when we are out there.

I assume it would be better if it had a current ITV and we had carried out some checks into finance and debt staus.

Any help or advice appreciated.

Many thanks

Nigel

We have though about is and it does look tempting but a couple of guys I know have bought and unfortunately have had problems   re registering the cars in their names now thay have them back here. Both bought from a dealer and it seems that the dealer didnt have or couldnt supply sufficient details of the prevoious spanish owners i.e. NIE , addresses etc in order for the new owner to register it in their names. Also one seems to have bought unpaid road tax debt allong with the car and we cant seem to find a way of checking if all tax/fines are paid up. beware

I agree with the above post - I think it is fraught with danger and problems. The cars could be stolen and dumped in the UK. Some would say a perfectly normal legal selling/buying situation is complicated enough without the potential problem of not knowing the previous owner and consequently unable to complete the paperwork - see the article here:

Nigel, Nicky

Take a look at this link… it will give you a good idea of the price of S/H cars over here.

http://www.coches.net/ For second hand, select under the heading vehicles ocasion.

The site advertises cars both from dealers and private owners. Most self respecting dealers will handle all of the ownership transfer documentation as part of the deal. Buying privately can lead to problems just as in the UK.

better if it had a current ITV , car can be take off you ... Nigel & Nicky would you drive you car with out road tax , insurance , mot

Before you can tax your vehicle you must have the appropriate insurance cover in place and if needed, the vehicle must have been MOT tested. ... You must keep your vehicle off the road in the meantime ,
