I was hoping you might be able to give me some idea…

My fiance will be studying in Barcelona and will apply for his student visa shortly. We are considering getting married before we leave so that I can apply as a spouse on his student visa.

Would we both have to show 1k of funds each for each month we will be there, or just 1k for each month?

If we were married, could our parents still write the letter stating they would give us 1k per month of assistance and assume financial responsibility?

Oh yes, I heard back. The response was not helpful:

To apply as his spouse, you must file your own application, he does not just add you to his.  Requisites are on our websites.

Hello, are both you and your bf non-Spaniards? Your question is not quite clear but..

from my experience of applying for the student visa, i had to show the acceptance letter and documentation from the university/institution that well tell the consulate approximately how long you would be studying in Spain (this will influence how you fill the application form about how long you would be in spain). From there, you would then have a rough idea how much you would need to have for the application.

eg: approximate duration of study = 12 months, you would need at least 12k euros in your bank. or get your parents to write the declaration.

fyi, my approx duration of study was 12 months (and that is what i stated upon application of visa), but upon my arrival here I decided it would be better if i did the programme in 2 years and hence matriculated in only half my courses. my parents wrote the declaration of financial responsibility although really, I’m surviving on my own savings. I have since gotten married ;D

I had a different experience with this. I’m Canadian and my husband is Mexican, and he is here studying on a student visa. Originally we planned to come here together and I would have to leave after three months, and I would sort out my visa then from Canada (because beforehand I was living in Mexico but needed to apply from Canada). However, when I got here and he went to apply for his NIE, he was told it was no problem to get me an NIE also. All we had to do was go back to the office with a copy of our marriage certificate, my passport, and my registration info from the police (all foreigners do this before applying for an NIE). And voila, I have an NIE! I’m listed as a student, but on the back there is small print that says I’m here as family/ dependent of a student.
I’m not sure if this works for everyone, because Spain seems to be VERY inconsistent, but this is what happened for us.

For those who have already applied for the visa, what was the requirement for the spouse?

My husband is receiving a grant from a university of 800 Euros a month to teach as an English Assistant at an elementary school.  I will be going to Spain with him and we are applying for the long-term student and spouse visa this month. 

Any advice on what my spousal “financial proof” would be?
