Our Landlady is starting to get a bit over the top. We gave our notice on the 2nd of April, the lese says we should give it by the 31st March. She said she would give us our deposit back anyway as long as everything was in order as she doesn’t like problems. We know the last part is not true as she kept a deposit and more from the previous tennant because he left.
We have tidied and cleaned the house a few times to help her to rent the house out. She has a let for June and has asked us to leave on the 27th as she let us stay in the house for 8 days free which is in the lease. We also are contracted to stay until the 30th June.
She showed somebody round yesterday and was showing the same people’s wives around todayl she texted me and said they weren’t coming as they didn’t want the house as it didn’t look like the pictures because of all our junk!!
Everbody is advising us not to pay the last month’s rent and bills as, if we do we won’t see the deposit of 850e and we can’t afford to lose it. the lease states that we must pay the last rent and then the house is revised before she gives the deposit back.
She keeps making reference to the fact that she had somebody who wanted to rent the house for a year, but because we didn’t say anything on time, she has lost an opportunity.
I am worried sick now and I dn’t know what to do. Could things get very nasty if we don’t pay the last rent and I am sure we won’t get the deposit back, she’s building up to it.Where do we stand legally?
