I am a UK pensioner but pay autonomo here in Spain. I have been told that this is not necessary and wonder if anybody has had success opting out and how they did it. Thanks.

Hi DB….

Sadly I do not think this is possible - but please check with an accountant first -
w w w cohesaconsulting.es
if you are near Coin in Malaga?
We can highly recommend Maria.

NB My OH is receiving UK state pension, wanted to work here (small market garden - read very small top up income!)
But by the time all the ‘world wide income’ (i.e UK pension had been taken into the personal allowance), Eu275pcm autonomo SS was not viable… I don’t think you can opt out!

Check with a professional who knows 😉  Good luck!

It is probably best to visit your local INSS office where they will explain whether you have to pay or not.

I find it is always adviseable in advance to arm yourself with the why’s and where’fore’s.. at least then you have a starting point.

(As I say, our own tax advisor is excellent in these matters.)

The other option might be the British Consulate - they have an arm of the DWP in Spain and can be quite helpful!
