We have friends who live out in the campo, and are having a spot of bother with some small wild mammals who appear to enjoy nesting in their settee!  They are about 6 inches long with tails that are detachable (she did try for the whole thing, honest!) and they call them “Zorro” as they have dark fur across their eyes which look like a mask! 

We’ve tried in vain to find out what they are, and I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas.

Sounds like ferrets but never heard of them losing their tails.

There are also stoats and weaels here but sounds too big for a weasel. Stoats have black tipped tails.
