HOLA- I AM A 40 YEAR OLD GUY,- NEW YORKER,LIVING IN MANHATTAN SPECIFICALLY, WITH NO TIES IN THE USA NOW, AND AM BEGINNING THE RESEARCH PROCESS INTO MOVING TO SPAIN. I HAVE BEEN STUDYING SPANISH FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR, I HAVE MANY SKILLS IN THE DESIGN INDUSTRY,AND HAVE OWN MY OWN SMALL BUSINESS.
I GUESS I AM WONDERING IF THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE LIVING IN SPAIN ARE PLEASED WITH THE MOVE AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS, AND IS IT WORTH THE HERCULEAN EFFORT TO MAKE IT HAPPEN? IT SOUNDS AS IF GETTING A JOB THERE WILL BE NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE…................. ANY INFO WOULD BE VERY WELCOME.
I moved to Spain from NYC nearly 6 years ago and I can say if I didn’t have my wife, her family and their connections it would have been near impossible. Jobs do exist but the pay is ridiculous compared to the cost of living these days. You could always teach english, the pay isnt that bad.
Being an entrepreneur is a better option but you have to have that kind of personality, to be out there making many social connections. It seems here that the strength of your social network outweighs any skills you may have. That’s just my 2cents.
So why do you want to come to Spain? What are you expecting, and where would you like to live…there are many lifestyles to choose from…hip city dweller, beach hippie, northern gastronome… its all here.
