I have a french registered car and for most of the time I shall reside in Spain. I have an NIE .  My husband is 74 and I am 65, both British. We have current Uk , Australian and Philippino licences. For part of the year we will live in France. Is it better to register our car in spain and apply for spanish licences or obtain french eu licences and keep the car registered in France?

Hi petcareinspain, you should not confuse personal driving license with vehicle licensing.  If you have a valid EU model photocard driving licence from one EU member state then it is valid in all member states but for Spain you might need to fulfil the medical obligations for routine eyesight and coordination tests which are every 10 yrs up to 45, every 5 yrs thereafter to 70 and then every 2 yrs.

For the vehicle, one which is fully legal in one EU state can visit another EU state for up to 6 months but then must be matriculated, taxed and subject to technical inspection of the host country.  Thus you can keep either a French car in France or a Spanish car in Spain or both so long as the car or cars is fully legal in the country where it spends more than 6 months.  Either way your licence is a different issue as above.
