Hello,

We are currently working on moving to Costa Blanca within a couple of months (round Gandia/Olivia).
One thing we need is relatively fast and reliable internet - and whilst researching I have heard alot of different things. Some people have told me ADSL is rarely available and if it is its unreliable, whilst others report the opposite.

This leaves me with a couple of questions I hope someone can help me with.

Is ADSL widely available in that area (20 download / 2 up for instance) and is it reliable? If so, can you recommend a good provider?
From my studies of the satelite internet alternative it appears to be relatively slow - does anyone have experiences with it?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Hmmm.

Now i?ve found a nice house in Ambola (Cap De La Nao) for a longterm/permanent rental, we have viewed the area and love it.

However, I have been reading alot on here and elsewhere to try and figure the internet issue - Telefonica seem to offer 10/1 adsl lines, but alot of people seem to problems with them (a dedicated forum onhere to complain about them is a bit scary)....but I havent really found alternatives that seem feasable.

It isnt so much about the price or the type - it can be adsl, cable or sattelitte - as long as it can be installed quickly, function reliably and deliver good speed. But I am very baffled as to how to figure this one out - can anyone point out any good providers in that area or give their experiences? Any help would be highly appreaciated.

I have a satellite internet connection at home and it is ?120 per month plus IVA and is only 500mb download speed and is a 20/1 contention rate. In other words it’s expensive for what you get and slow (to a point) and at the weekends VERY slow.

At work I have Telefonica 3mb speed and it’s no much better than the satellite connection but acceptable. No way is it 3 mb speed but then they never are what they say they are. To my knowledge there are no better systems than this in Spain, although I believe they are considering putting up the speed.

Given that Spain is still in the dark ages regarding the internet then it’s anyones guess when they will have suitable connections.

My village had fibre optic cables installed 3 years ago and still they aren’t connected.

Telefonica are the worst company I have ever dealt with in my entire life!!!!!

Thank you very much for your reply and info cbram.

It does seem Spain is a bit in the middle ages internet wise - though for ADSL i noticed Telefonica is advertising 20/1 lines and Ono seemingly does 25/1 cable - both of which would be quite up to speed (if theyre even half of that). But of course it depends if theyre able (and willing) to deliver in the specific area.
