Hi
In my village there are only 4 english families, so what I have done is I joined the local “Asociaci?n de las mujeres”.  I suppose that it is like the WI in the UK (I would never have joined that though), They have meetings, courses and trips.  So far I have learned how to renovate old furniture, decorate plates & make lace.  The courses aren’t necessarily about anything that I want tolearn how to do, I just go along for the company, to practice my spanish and to become part of the commuinity a little more.

It’s not necessarily easy to do as sometimes they all talk at once to each other and I don’t understand a thing which can be quite frustrating, but they have been very welcoming and try to help me.

When we were learning to make lace, the teacher obviously wasn’t keen on “the english” so they all became quite protective of me and sorted the teacher out sharpish!

Try going to the Ayuntamiento and asking if you have one and how to join.  You have to pay “subs” each month (like you did at Brownies), but it isn’t much.

Good luck and get out there!
