Hello,

I am an American citizen who will be studying for 1 year in Spain.  Is it possible to obtain a Spanish student visa while in Spain and still on the 90 day tourist visa?

As I will be in Spain for over 180 days, I am required the FBI background check.  However, the FBI is backlogged and does not expect my results to be mailed back to me until mid-September (I depart September 1).  While I have all other required materials, I still await the FBI background check…which presents a huge problem.  So, I am wondering if I can apply for the student visa while in Spain and still in the tourist’s visa 90 day timeframe when all materials will be available.

Thanks!

I?m not sure about US, but for my classmates all around the world and myself (from Australia), you need to apply via the Spanish Embassy in your country of origin. If everyone has to do it, I?m sure it will be the same as the US. Check with your Spanish embassy in the US.
