I?m a US resident and a Spaniard by birth. My family is Spanish and resides in Spain. I can?t travel to Spain for health reasons. My mother gave power of attorney to my siblings years ago. (1) Now that my mother has died, what happens to that power of attorney? Do my siblings become executors automatically? They are, as I am, the beneficiaries of the inheritance and have contacted me jointly as executors. (2) Do some powers of attorney extend beyond the constituent?s death? As heiress, do I have the right to see the power of attorney document? (3) My siblings sent me a bank statement with my mother?s account balance. What avenues do I have to verify whether this is the only bank account my mother had? What entity in Spain should I contact, as a heiress, and without a lawyer, to obtain this information?
