Hey all,

So my boyfriend and I had plans to meet up in Europe, unfortunately the way things panned out he left about 3 months before me. Now he is in Greece working under the table and I just moved to Barcelona where I’ve received my legal papers to work thanks to an EU citizenship. He’s planning on coming here to Barcelona in October.
Thing is, he’s overstayed his Schengen visa by about 1.5 months now. From what I’ve heard/read he shouldn’t have too much trouble getting across the borders from Greece/Spain as something tells me their immigration policies aren’t super stringent won’t have an issue.
However, being the reckless guy that he is, he never applied for a legitimate work visa and has just gotten along under the table. That’s all fine and good, but he actually has an very niche technical skill; he’s been a Commercial Diver and scuba team leader for a few years and has lots of experience. So I think, why don’t you just try and go the legal route and find a job contract, considering you have a technical skill it wouldn’t be as difficult as for someone like me who only has experience in bars/restaurants/offices etc. I think if he actually bothered to try to get a job contract, he in fact could find one. But now it might be too late for that considering he’s overstayed his Schengen?? So my question is; is there a possibility that he can still apply for a work Visa in Spain if he has found a job contract / can he apply for a work permit first that extends his Schengen and THEN find a job contract? Or at this point will he just have to continue working under the table?

Any elucidation on this matter would be wonderful! Cause we all know how precarious counting on under the table jobs is! If you know any resources or information that could help me please let me know!! thanks!
