El Paro and English Taxes

Hello all

I have been living in Barcelona for a year and working for nearly six months, full time with SS contributions etc. My job is not very secure (it is a huge multi-national company and i think there will be redundancies soon). I am not sure how El Paro works. As I am nearly at six months I believe i have some entitlement, also is it possible to transfer taxes/national insurance contributions from the UK to spain as before I moved to Barca I was in full time employement for many years. I have been searching the internet but I am not having much luck.

Thanks for any help !

Suggest you start here:

I think UK contributions may well count here. But research official sources. There is a UK DWP office in Alicante which might help.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, I will keep the topic updated if anyone else needs this advice in the future

Hello spector,

I may be in this situation soon, hoping to get a little bit of help because I?m not a British national but have worked in London.

I work for a muti-national in Madrid, and seeing a manager is leaving the firm very soon (the only one who has anything to do with why I was hired), there could be a possibility of letting me go. I?ve worked here for 7 months, 6 months on pr?cticas and now on indefinido. I?ve also worked in London for 6 months so have been paying the contributions there as well.

Do you have any update on this? It would be very good to see the process you went through... what forms/documents from the UK.. I believe I have a P45 mailed to me when I left the London firm. Or if you haven?t been through the process, then I guess you?re still with the job! :)

Of course if the scenario did happen, I will keep you all informed with my progress.

Many thanks!!!

Hi

At the moment my job seems quite secure (finger crossed) so ive not had to transfer any of my contributions etc, I did meet some one who did this and it seemed to be quite difficult and took a long time.
It was quite a while ago that I looked into this and I cant remember the details of what forms etc you need. I have had a look through my email inbox and i have the links below which i think have some useful information.

Hope this helps and that everything works out O.K

I wonder if it?s worthwhile to just do the transfer in the meantime, so in the worst case scenario I?ll have all the contributions sitting with the SS in Spain, since I do not intend to work or live in the UK anymore (but who knows??!). With a bit more time, I?ll look into that.

Thanks a million!!

I think the short answer is no, they can't be actually transferred but they do all count together towards final pension etc. There is plenty of info on UK Gov sites or contact the UK DWP teams based in Spain.
