I have been to the costa del sol many times and the only pest i have ever come across is a lizard in my lounge, which was fine as i like them, but are there any potentially dangerous insects or creatures that i could expect to come into my house and at certain times of the year?

Apart from rip-off Brits pretending to be tradesmen you mean…

Probably not; on the coast you are pretty well protected by the environment itself. You have the usual pests such as flies and wasps and ants and perhaps the occasional cockroach but nothing that could be classed as dangerous. Inland and in the pine forested areas there is the ‘processionary caterpillar’ which is hazardous and can be lethal to curious domestic animals like dogs and cats details below:

Our previous house - not in campo, campo - but on edge of Pueblo - we had scorpions!
Likewise, in our most recent home- very campo - scorpions again. But thankfully not in the house!

I think there is a posinous snake or two, but maybe only in the mountains in the heat of the summer.
(We just shoo out the ones the cat brings in with a broom! We think they are Horsewhip types - very long and thin.)
