We (family) are planning on moving to the Alicante area next year for six months to a year and had a few questions.  I have had my NIE and Empadron at a friends property continually since 2003 I am a non-EU citizen (US) and was wondering if I purchase or rent for 6 months to a year without working and needing any sort of government support, what is the best avenue to make sure I am completely legal? Do my spouse and young children (5-10) need to get a NIE or empadron as well?  If I purchase a property to live in does that change anything?  Also, is anyone aware of any English speaking expat groups in Alicante city?  Any direction would be appreciated.
