There is often confusion about who and what notaries public in Spain are.
(I've come across many people too who didn't know - even refused to believe - that there are also notaries public in the U.K.!)

It's important to point out that there is functional variance across jurisdictions - so a notary public on the continent performs similar but also different roles to those in UK.

The Union Internacional del Notariado Latino (UINL) is the international body, which represents such notaries.
