Learning to Drive and Driver's Licence: UK versus Spain (Canaries)

Hi,

I've been living in the Canary Islands the past several years and am resident in both London and the Canaries.

Taking into consideration recent changes in the UK legislation for obtaining a driver's licence, can anyone please advise as to where would be a better place to learn and obtain a driver's licence: London/UK or the Canaries? I have never had a driving lesson before.

I have spoken to an Italian national who also spends a lot of time in the Canaries, and he'd told me that the rules are a bit different from those in mainland Spain.

I speak Spanish, though it's not quite as good as my fluent Italian and have found a driving school with an English-speaking instructor in the Canaries.

Pro's/con's, views, advice most welcome- esp. from anyone who's recently taken a driving test in both the UK and the Canaries!

Thanks,
Patricia.
