I have only recently returned to live in Spain now that I have retired.
My Spanish ex husband used to arrange all of my legal paperwork but now I’m having to sort this out for myself.
In the past I had a work and residence permit aswell as a Spanish driving license.  Obviously, they are now all out of date but I still have copies of all paperwork.
Can anyone inform me if I have to reapply using my old N.I.E number or do I apply as a new resident.  Also, can I just update my Spanish driving license.

Welcome back -

NIE numbers are for life - the old form (probably hand written) is now out of date and unusable - but the number remains valid and will be reproduced on your new residencia documentation. New rules apply for this application now regarding healthcare and financial status.

Probably best to exchange DL for a Spanish one when you have completed the above.

Don’t forget to sign on the padron as well.
