We’re thinking of getting jazztel mobile for my wife. The terms are good since we have jazztel adsl, but we dont know how their coverage is.

Can anyone advise me on how good coverage jazztel has spain-wide ?

fyi, we will be living in a mountain village cercedilla north of madrid.

Do Jazztel actually have their own mobile system or do they piggyback onto Movistar Orange Vodafone etc…?
Cant tell from their ads and publicity…
Given that over 90% of the fijo/adsl cover is via Movistar I suspect they do the same with moviles…

Jazztel say on their website that they have 90% national coverage for mobile internet and 95% voice cover. The only mainstream dedicated mobile supplier that can offer this kind of cover is Vodafone. It’s just my guess that Jazztel have an agreement in place with Vodafone…
In Spain, mainstream mobile coverage from other suppliers is very patchy particularly in the case of 3G and 3.5G cover. In our village for instance we have only 2G cover from Movistar and at times have to go to the end of the street to make a call; Vodafone however have a mast at the top of the village guaranteeing 3G and 3.5G cover for their clients.

I suspect Kindle’s Whispernet system in Spain is operated over Vodafone too because of their extensive cover. My wifes Kindle always shows 3G cover when she is out here.

Looking at the header pic in this website it looks like Cercedilla gets a fair bit of snow… seems quite mountainous.

That being the case the mobile cover could indeed be a little patchy.

Exactly, but you cant be sure of the coverage in a specific area until you have a contract in place and the phone in your hand, by which time it’s too late to pull out! I think in your position (and if they do such a thing)I would buy an el cheapo PAYG phone from Jazztel and try it out before signing up to any sort of contract… that way at least you still have a mobile for when the super-duper all singing, all dancing contract smartphone dies on you!

But that’s just cynical me!

Strangely enough, despite the fact that your adsl is with Jazztel your IP address decodes back to Telefonica (Movistar)... just as I thought it might!

no no - we are still staying at in-laws’ and we wont be moving to new place until next week. this IS telefonica, and its problematic adsl.
