Hello I am so glad I found this site with lots of useful info!

My Hubby and I both early 40’s have considered moving to Spain for the climate for a few years. We have a 7 year old boy, a 21 year old boy and an 18 year old girl who lives in London as she is in her 2nd year of a 3 year dance school course. (we are in Scotland).  My Hubby works for himself as a sole trader in the business trade and is fed up with the constant struggle trying to just earn a decent living in this country with companied that don’t pay in time, tax men, vat men, the lot. We are both fed-up with it all.

I am interested to hear from anyone in a similar situation to us who made the move and changed their life for the better. I find myself thinking all sorts and getting negative about it all as after all this is all I have known for 42 years!  Things like a School for my Son who is doing well at school here, my oldest boy who maybe wouldn’t want to come with us, my Daughter in London, the language barrier amongst others!  I am just a bit scared that what if we make the wrong move and get home sick?  I don’t feel I would miss Scotland that an occasional visit wouldn’t fix, we are not big socialisers and like country life and are a bit fed-up with the rat race here in the UK as we live in a new estate where everyone seems to try and outdo each other with cars/holidays etc. I would certainly like to be away from this. Of course the climate in probably the biggest draw for us and the relaxed pace of life.

There is also the work situation. If we sold our house we would have ?100k to buy outright and have no mortgage…..this would take pressure of hubby. He can do most building work….but would he get work OK in Spain?  We would still need an income so that is another area we are unsure of. I am thinking about going along to a Property expo exhibition in Glasgow today but am worried it will just be a sales pressurised show!

There is also the question of area…where is the best value for money and plenty ex-pats, schools etc. I like the Costa del Sol but cost prices would be a really important factor for us.

Thanks for listening, regards Troythecat

Hi there am moving to spain soon as house sells, got most things in place like where to
go and job for both me and wife. Been thinking about doing this for two years, if you dont take the
first step you will never take the second. You will look back in years to come and regret never taking
the second step. If you really want something in life you sometimes have to take a risk or 2? Both my wife and
i have good jobs, no children at mo but are fedup of working 24/7. I recomend checking out where in spain you
would like to be, go over have a look around checkout the schools and different areas. Whats good for one person
maybe not right for you? And start learning spanish i can get by in markets, and restaurants am still learnig. But dont
loose track of your goal kind regards
