Can an American citizen without residency buy a used car from an independent seller in Spain?  I want to buy a used car in Spain, use it awhile, and take it to Morocco with me on vacation.  Is this possible?  I live in Spain but do not have residency papers, only a 3 month visa.

Ok I will put myself in the firing line again (see other posts!)

You do not need residencia to buy a car - I know people who have bought Spanish cars but they dont live here as residents (but because they spend some weeks here they dont want to pay hire rental costs)

But (as always) to make the car legal you will need NIE but thats no problem because you can have NIE without residencia.

All you need is a NIE!!! and a Spanish Bank Account and a Spanish Adress with empadrinamiento number form you town that was in my case when i bought a new car. I Bought my car with my Florida License no problem!!! Now if you want to buy a used car it will probably be more simple. Watch out if you have a NON-EU license you must check if you foreign license is accepted even from tourist of the U.S in Spain you must have an International driver ID and that is only good for 90 days the validity of you tourist visa some States like New York and California have yearly agreements with Spain so residents of those states could dive with a U.S license of that state together with a International Drivers license for a Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
