Hi! I just would like to ask an advice. I am a non-euro passport holder and the processing of our working visa has started already. I was about to be hired as an accountant in Barcelona and I am offered a pay of 900 euro per month. Would it suffice? Then, I am planning to visit Switzerland, can i visit there by presenting my work permits I obtained from Spain. Hope somebody would help me.

I don't think you can live very well on 900 euros a month in Barcelona, or anywhere else in Europe for that matter, and it doesn't sound like a professional salary. I'm assuming your job comes with the prospect of rapid advancement through training, or some kind of generous bonus structure. Otherwise there must be some mistake....

I lived on 900 euros a month for a time in early 2004. Not easy, you feel like slave labour, but it's do-able.

Exactly, that's why I'm assuming there's a training element or something; you'd need to be working towards a finite goal. And things have gone up a bit in the past 3 years.

Hi Chuffmann. As Martin and Expatriator told you, it is very little. It is only a salary to survive. You cannot rent an apartment with that salary because prices are from 700 ? pcm. You would have to share a room for 270 ? to 450 ?. See it in www.compraventa.com. In the map click Barcelona. Then select "Pisos" then "Alquiler" and in the listing you will see the prices. Anyway, there is an unwritten rule of not renting to people without a permit except EU/EFTA unregistered citizens.
Your permit will not be valid in Switzerland. See it in www.admin.ch This is because of the implementations that CH made of Schengen. See the whole discussion in www.englishforum.ch. Look in the threads and you will be able to find questions and answers.
