RESIDENCIA UPDATE

The Costa Blanca paper ? Round Town News reports today that the campaign led by the British Expats Association (http://www.ukgovabusesexpats.co.uk) against Spains implementation of the EU law on Residence permits has resulted in a letter from the EU Commission which in summary states that Spain is breaking the EU law on 9 points!

1.  The 6.70? fee is illegal

2.  Issue cannot be dependent upon the padron or any other formality

3.  When a citizen has already resided here for 5 yrs they must automatically received their permanent residence

4.  Registration must take place very locally not provincial capital.

5.  Confirmed cards are now illegal

6.  Failed to carry out proper awareness campaign

7.  Incorrect provision for disabled

8.  Illegal to request any other documentation apart from: ID card (UK does not have) or passport, proof of health care cover, family relationship document. Demands for parents names and fiscal numbers is not allowed!

9.  Failed to implement by due date

I was wondering how the British process works - anybody out there who has arrived in the UK and had to apply there? What is the process how does it work???????

I had a quick look at the UK Home Office site to seehow the Brits treat the foreigners and what their process is for residencia.

The site states there is no charge because its illegal to charge (my Spanish wife says its not a charge in Spain its a tax!)

But in the UK there seems to be only 1 place to apply (Croydon) or you can mail it.

The form comes in a 15 page pack (and we moan about Spanish admin!)
