Hi all!

I am planning on moving to Spain in the next two years with my three young daughters but I am having trouble finding where we should move to.  My daughters are quite active, they have dance and gymnastics lessons which they really enjoy and want to carry on.  Can anybody tell me if they know an area that I should look into?  We want to be near the coat if possible but my main concerns are finding schools and a place they can carry on their activities so any suggestions would be great!

Thank you for your help.

Hi Terri, Im Terri too!!!  I know there are definately dance and gym classes near where I live because alot of the young girls around here go every week after school and put on dance shows.  I came out here in Sept, my 8 year old boy is in school and seems to really like it at the moment, we live in Campo De Guardamar, about 5 mins in the car from the beaches which are gorgeous

Hi Terri!

Thanks for your reply, it’s just what I wanted to hear!  My girls would be so pleased to be able to carry on their activities.  I will have a look at the area where you live in a minute, I’m glad it’s close to the beach too!  I hope you don’t mind me asking some more questions, but what are the school hours like there, and are most of the work hours more or less the same?  I am a single Mum you see so I will have to work but I have seen that some of the school hours are all over the place, plus they seem to have a lot of time off between June and September!  I really like the idea of them going to school less and being able to see them more during the day but I am concerned about fitting work around it and also, what do you do when they are off school all that time?

Sorry for all the questions but it’s so nice to be able to talk to someone who has done it!  How is your son getting on with the language, and what about yourself?  Did you know Spanish already or have you picked it up?  I am trying to learn at the moment!

Thanks again for your reply!

Hi Terri

Which costa are you looking at?

I live in the Costa del Sol, just recently moved to the Campo but we did used to live in Fuengirola (Malaga Province) - on the Costa del Sol there are classes for everything from Yoga to Ballet so I know you would not struggle to occupy young children here! 😊

Look forward to chatting with you

Hi,
I do agree that Fuengirola has all you might need and I think Fuengirola is a good choice. But you will also find this in all the coastal towns between Torremolinos and Estepona.

Best regards from Mijas Costa (Close to Fuengirola).

I have a young child and live in La Cala in Mijas Costa.
The schools are great ,the beach is very close, lot of thing to do in the summer ,
It great place to live if you have a family.
Most of all its not roudy during the season as its still very Spanish

Hi again,
Yes La Cala has a lot to do in the summer, but not so much off season. It is a good place for young kids but teens do not have much to do, they will end up in Fuengirola. If you have teens or very active kids then will probably Fuengirola bee a much better alternative, it has far more options. But the beach is very nice and not so crowded in La Cala, we use it very often during the season (we have just 10 minutes drive to La Cala).

Best regards
Jonny

I agree with Jonny, Fuengirola has a lot more going on for teens on and odd season. La Cala is a nice little area but there are no trains and the main road there is a nightmare. Fuengirola is the end of the line but you can connect easily to Malaga from Fuengirola for shopping, cinemas etc. When your children are at the age that you allow them to use public transport on their own, Fuengirola is where you will want to be to save you having to do so much driving! 😊

A lot depends the age of your kids.Fuengirola is a main resort and gets very roudy in the season (may -sept )
Not the ideal place for kids.
Public transport here is safe and always runs on time.

Hola

We are looking to move to the Costa Blanca near Javea- lots of good schools, and plenty going on for kids of all ages.  Just in case you wanted to look at a different Costa it would be worth looking into!
