I’m a researcher working for a BBC Radio 4 programme called Word of Mouth, about words and language and the way we use them.
We’re interested to find out whether British expats in Spain use any kind of specific slang- combinations of Spanish and English, for example.  Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks in advance,

Hi Sally, Many people tend to talk Spranglish - ie 50/50 or maybe 90/10 English and Spanish. Many Spanish will reply in English to an English person asking for something in Spanish - sometimes a whole conversation will be like this! each trying to prove they can speak each others language!! The English will usually call the hardware shop the Ferret shop (refer to a Spanish-Englsih dictionary! if you need to)  As to specific slang probably swearing or rude words have been adopted although probably incorrectly used! I personally do envisage a day when a more common language evolves due to many nationalities living together.
