I’m opening this topic only as to clear some doubts and problems I experienced 7 months ago.

I lost my original student card / visa because MIR (ministerio del interior) messed up my appointment to renew it in September. I had lost it and wanted to renew.

In December they told me I had everything, although one of the papers I had proving I was enrolled was outdated (it was for the semester beginning in September) and that I would need to present another showing courses in the Winter/Spring semester. Unfortunately I didn’t have this with me at the moment. I was given another appointment in February.

By February everything that I could have done was absolutely useless. I was told that my request was way out of date and I would have to return to the U. States as to process another visa.

Only months later I had my new visa. Last week (the 19th of September) I had my appointment to apply for my “initial” request of my student card (even though I already had one with my NIE). If anyone is in my situation make sure that you have your police report (denuncia)! Very important. Luckily I had it with me—but unfortunately this information is not provided by many sources.

That’s all. I hope this serves as a “wikipedia” type reference for anyone consulting the same doubts. Good Luck.
