Did you pay too much on your capital gains taxes a few years ago?
I’ve been contacted by a couple of sources regarding a legal victory against the Spanish government that should open up the possibility for thousands of British and EU expats to claim a decent chunk of their 2004-2006 paid capital gains taxes for rebate.
Here’s the important bit:
The opportunity to lodge a tax reclaim hinges on a change to the Spanish tax laws in December 2006.
Until then, people who sold homes in Spain, but who were officially non-resident, were taxed at 35% of their profits, rather than at the 15% rate applied to Spanish nationals.

Is anyone in this position? Has anyone contacted their lawyer about it? It would seem that Emilio Alvarez, the victorious abogado here, is going to do awfully well from this case.
