Hi there,
We will donate $5 to this website for every helpful response!
We are Australian / New Zealand and my partner Sara has a Spanish passport from her Dad who is from and living in Las Palmas. As our unlikely wedding planner he’s been doing his best, and we have been following all the advice in the forums, but now we’ve hit a hurdle. Here’s the breakdown of the problem.
1. We want to get married around the 1st of June this year, at the Registro Civil in Las Palmas De Gran Canaria.
2. Since before Christmas we have been organising all the paperwork through the Spanish Consulate in Sydney.
3. During all this time, the Registro Civil in Las Palmas would not allow my father in law to book a wedding date there until they had seen all the required paperwork from the Sydney Consulate.
3. We had all the required paperwork completed and this has been posted to Las Palmas by the consulate.
4. It’s been 3 weeks since it was sent and Las Palmas are saying they have still not recieved the paperwork, and when they do it will not be until the 23rd of June that they could begin to process it. The date of our actual wedding could end up being much later than that date.
So what can we do? We have made quite a few arrangements based on the date of the 1st of June. We thought we had still allowed ourselves quite a bit of time to get things organised. It seems the process required is quite different to what others have experienced.
So the questions….
1. What can we do to have the wedding closer to the 1st of June?
2. Do we persist with the Registro Civil to achieve the 1st of June?
3. Are there ways of having a celebrant or other representative marry us or have a church wedding and complete the paperwork after that date?
HELP US PLEASE!!
