Hi - I am renting an apartment in Murcia and my goods have recently been delivered from the UK. I will shortly be moving again to a friend’s house and storing my belongings in her basement. I need insurance cover on all my personal goods no matter where they are but when I try to apply for online cover they all seem to be about the house - questions I can’t even answer! Can anyone help? I would be very grateful as an getting a bit stressed about the thought of flood fire etc…haha.

I think your friend’s insurance will cover your posessions while they are in her basement as long as the total sum insured is enough to comfortably cover your stuff as well as her own. If it isn’t, you might want to contribute to her increasing her cover.  As for now, in your rental flat, I think you’ll just have to pay up for cover on the current address - although some stuff may be covered by travel insurance if it’s only a matter of a few weeks. Insuring goods “no matter where they are” is always going to be difficult and expensive as the risks are so high.

Be fair AR Murcia - if you were the insurance company would you not want to understand the details about the house to assess the risk you were underwritng?  ie has it an alarm etc etc. Like in the UK!

And I note you seem to joke about flood - if you think it does not rain here you are very wrong - many basements can be flooded in the gota fria season!

Find a good broker and explain what you are looking for and they will help.
